Sofala Carp Blitz this Sunday

KIDS attending the 2011 Sofala Carp Blitz in western NSW this Sunday November 20 will be treated to fishing workshops run by the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI).

NSW DPI Education Officer, Brett Smith said participants will learn how to rig a rod, tie knots, cast, identify and handle fish, and most importantly, learn sustainable fishing practices.

"Dedicated Fishcare volunteers will be on hand to assist participants master their new skills," Smith said.

"Each fishing workshop will run for less than an hour and workshops will be held throughout the day.

"Fisheries compliance officers will also be attending to answer questions and provide information on NSW fishing rules and regulations. To register on the day, just come to the Mudgee side of the bridge and look for the signs."

After attending a workshop, participants will be able to put their newfound skills into practice fishing for carp in the Turon River, with plenty of prizes on offer for those able to hook a carp.

All monies raised at the Sofala Carp Blitz will be used to purchase native fish under the NSW DPI Dollar for Dollar Native Fish Stocking Program, for release into the Turon River and Crudine Creek.
