Q: HI MULLET MAN,
CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME. I NEED A GOOD SNAPPER ROD AND REEL COMBO FOR MY BOAT SO I'M WONDERING WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST FOR PLASTICS. I'M LOOKING AT A DAIWA C 4000 AND A SHIMANO RAIDER 701 MEDIUM HEAVY 5-10KG ROD. WOULD THIS BE OK?
DARREN.
A: Dear Darren,
The new Gen Y anglers of today are obsessed with plastics and toys. Snapper eat all sorts of stuff, and over the years I reckon not much has changed except for every angler now busting their arses to feed snapper fake food. What happened to handlines and pilchards? Bloody hell, my 20 year old Ugly Stik and Alvey have put more reddies in the fish box than the modern plastic tweaker will see in a lifetime. Anyway, as to the outfit you chose, I reckon it will be a very versatile tool in the boat with a lot of applications. The Raider rod series were designed by Ian Miller. Now I've known this bloke since he was a little whipper snapper working for Harbord Tackle with a wispy little mo, and the bloke is a bloody fishing rod designing genius, a true fish whisperer. Have a look at his T Curve models as well, all bloody fantastic rods and great value.
Daiwa stuff is also bloody good gear. I've put my Daiwa eggbeaters into the lion's den hooking all sorts of monsters without a drama. Depending on the depth of water you want to fish, the 4000 size reel should be about right for those snapper you are chasing. Seriously, that is a very good outfit that is great value for money. Go get 'em mate.
