HOOKING a marlin is a highlight in any angler’s career but landing a 151-kilo beast off the rocks is definitely the catch of a lifetime.
Well-known LBG exponent Adam Dia realised a long-held dream on January 24 when he hooked, fought and landed a massive 151 kilo black marlin off the world famous Tubes in Jervis Bay, on the NSW South Coast.
The fish took a live slimy under a balloon. Adam used 24kg Momoi line fished on a Shimano Tiagra 50W and a custom 800XH Calstar rod built by Mark Goodger. The hook was a 7/0 Mustad Seamaster. The fight was a surprisingly short 28 minutes. We’re sure, however, that it was the longest 28 minutes in Adam’s life!
About the same time this fish was caught, we heard of another LBG fisho getting spooled at the Tubes by a big billfish. And on the weekend just gone a good fish was lost because a boat drove over the line, cutting it off. LBG fishermen do it tough enough as it is – they don’t need twats in boats driving over their fish. Steer clear of the Tubes over summer, fellas!
Anyway, congrats from all of us here at Fisho, Adam – cracker fish, mate!
