Changes to fishing rules in the Gulf
NEW changes to some rec fishing rules now apply in Queensland's Gulf of Carpentaria.
In one of the most significant changes the size limit for barramundi in the Gulf has been reduced from 60cm to 58cm. The size reduction is designed to bring it in line with the rest of the state and make it easier for anglers.
Similarly, the bag limit for giant queenfish has changed to five per person, making the regulation consistent across Queensland.
Other changes include reducing the bag limit for black jewfish from five to two, with no maximum legal size applying for the species.
The bag limit for golden snapper or fingermarks has dropped from five fish to 10.
The annual closed season for barramundi now applies in the Gulf from midday October 7 to midday February 1 each year.
