BLOG: DIY adventure

There's something special about sorting through the tackle locker, prepping the boat and organising a few mates to hit the road for a trip away. Gathering intelligence on a location, the species to be targeted and then piecing together an arsenal of tackle to cover all bases helps with building the anticipation.

Exotic locations and guided adventures are always exciting, however, the thought process and banter that accompanies a group of mates planning any DIY trip is something that I seldom tire of.

If I'm not driving then I'll be sitting in the front or back seat like an excited school kid; eyes glued to the window, watching our glorious countryside pass by.

Expectation is always high when driving to a location you've read about, explored using satellite imagery or even a location that's a far enough from home to make a daytrip impractical. The grass is greener on the other side, I guess, and most fishing locations that require any effort to get to, even if that effort is merely an extra hour on a sealed road, often seem to offer better fishing irrespective of whether reality suggests otherwise.

As you well know by now we're on the road with the Fisho Bar Crusher in tow (stay tuned for a report today in News) - we've driven past countless productive fishing grounds to get to where we are, however, the characters met (like Mr Fieldus) and camaraderie shared amongst mates elevates the experience - whilst fishing is the driving force behind a decision to hit the road - good company and great mates can make any trip worthwhile.

Time to hit the road…
