The fisherman's body was located floating in Little Bay and was recovered from the water by the helicopter's crew.
Local detectives are continuing their inquiries into the incident and will prepare a report for the information of the New South Wales Coroner.
The man's death has prompted police to renew their warning about the dangers of rock fishing.
"This incident is further evidence of the dangers of rock fishing and we've seen in recent days big seas pounding the coast," Chief Inspector David McBeath from Eastern Beaches LAC said. "Unless you are experienced in rock fishing and have the proper equipment it's unwise to take part in this potentially dangerous activity - especially in rough conditions."

You're right Roger. I can feel another law coming. Real soon. The nanny state can't have people hurting themselves can it? Your so called "legal chop" is imminent, but not just on rock hopping - on the whole sport.

Really if this keeps up the authorities will ban rock fishing in NSW on the basis of death, injury, time and cost of rescue and recovery. It seems we can't save people from themselves and nor can NSW Fisheries etc. It is up to us to all to practice common sense and learn what to do BEFORE this activity gets the legal chop.
