1000lb black tamed off Gold Coast

WHILE following up reports earlier this week of some outstanding blue marlin fishing occurring off QLD's Gold Coast, Fisho's David Green also mentioned a memorable black marlin encounter some of his mates experienced earlier this month.

Greeny tracked down the pic (top right and below) taken during the capture and release of a massive black marlin on 60kg tackle at Jim's Mountain.

The billfish was caught by Mick Keogh, with Mark Morlands manning the helm and Bruce Wills and Kim Jones performing leader duty. The black reportedly measured 3.4m in length with a 2m girth. Going by these measurements the monster black was estimated to weigh around 1037 lbs.

The group also accounted for two nice blue marlin on the same day, with Kelly Wills accounting for one, her first ever - see images of the blue marlin action below.
